Andando 1 quarteirão na poeira, chego no complexo onde fica o escritório. DLF Cyber Greens 14 e 15 andares. O prédio é super moderno e bonito. Tudo é muito limpo e bem cuidado.

Na frente do prédio tem uma praça com fonte que está sempre desligada. Além disso, tem uma grande praça de alimentação, com fast food ocidentais e também indianas. Pizza Hut, McDonals, Domino’s, Subway... Estão todos aqui. Todos os dias como uma comida indiana diferente, uma aventura ao paladar. Já estou mais acostumado com a pimenta, mas nunca escolho os pratos que tem “Apimentado” em seu nome.

O time de Comunicação Corporativa é pequeno, somos 8 mas ainda falta uma trainee da Bulgária que está para chegar. Dentre estes 8 tem 2 ex-membros da AIESEC, que também trabalharam no exterior, então eles entendem bem o que eu estou passando.

O ambiente de trabalho não é muito diferente das grandes empresas no Brasil. Todos os dias vestimos roupa social e sexta-feira é livre, viva a calça jeans! Uma diferença grande é que geralmente almoçamos por volta das 2:30 da tarde e não ao meio-dia como no Brasil.

Já tenho meu cubículo, minha credencial e meu laptop, mas ainda faltam o telefone, o email e a conta no banco. A burocracia é um saco! Ainda não “enfeitei” meu cubículo com fotos e lembranças do Brasil, porque vou me mudar para Bangalore. Lá sim será meu lugar.

Estou gostando do trabalho. A equipe me faz sentir que realmente faço parte do processo e cada vez mais me vejo envolvido com outras coisas. Tenho em mãos 2 projetos que gosto muito: o plano de comunicação de um programa de treinamento sobre os valores da empresa e a construção da página na intranet da unidade de Bangalore.

Em Bangalore fica o Bell Labs da India. Pra quem não sabe, o Bell Labs é um dos principais centros de pesquisa e desenvolvimento de tecnologia do mundo. Os caras tem 11 premios Nobel e são responsáveis por inovações como o transistor, o laser... Uma das minhas responsabilidades é fazer com que eles apareçam mais dentro e fora da Alcatel-Lucent.

Bom, vou atualizando sobre o trabalho na medida que as coisas forem acontecendo. No próximo post, minha primeira viagem de fim de semana dentro da Índia. :)

Walking one block in the dust I make it to the building complex where is the office: DLF Cyber Greens 14th and 15th floors. The building is very modern and beautiful. Everything is very clean and well cared.

In front of the building there is a square with a fountain that is always off. There’s also a big food court with Indian and Western fast food restaurants. Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Domino’s, Subway… They are all here. Everyday I ate a different Indian dish, a tasting adventure. I’m getting used to pepper but I never order something that has “Spicy” in its name.

The Corporate Communications team is small. We are 8 people but its still missing a Bulgarian trainee that is arriving soon. Amongst these 8 people there are 2 AIESEC alumni that also had internships abroad, so they understand what I am passing through.

The work environment is not that different from big companies in Brazil. During the whole week we dress formally and on Friday is casual day; greets to jeans! One big difference is that we usually have lunch by 2:30pm and not a noon as in Brazil.

I already have my cubicle, my credential and my laptop but it’s still missing the phone, the email ID and the bank account. Bureaucracy sucks! I still didn’t decorate my cubicle with photos and memories from Brazil because I’ll move to Bangalore. There will be my place.

I’m enjoying my job. The team make me feel like I’m part of the process and I see myself envolved with other stuff more each time. I have in my hands 2 projects that I really like: the communication plan of a training program about the company values and the intranet webpage of Bangalore unit.

In Bangalore there is Bell Labs India. For those who don’t know, Bell Labs is one of the main research and development centers of technology in the world. They own 11 Nobel prizes and are responsible for innovations such as the transistor, the laser… One of my assignments is to showcase them inside and outside Alcatel-Lucent.
Well, I’ll update about the working when new things start to happen. In the next post: my first weekend trip in India.

Casa de Hóspedes

Belvedere Park B71 – DLF City Phase III, Gurgaon, Haryana. Este é o meu endereço durante o mês de Janeiro. No início de Fevereiro irei me mudar para Bangalore, no sul da India. Enquanto isso estou na casa de hospedes da Alcatel-Lucent, vivendo como patrão.

Belvedere Park é um condomínio bem grandinho. São vários prédios e uma área comum com: piscina, sala de ginastica, salão de festas, salão de jogos e uma lojinha que tem de tudo (frutas e legumes, cosmeticos, comida, bebidas nao alcoolicas...). São 2 elevadores, sempre uma aventura. A energia acaba várias vezes durante o dia (tipo umas 10 vezes), durante alguns segundos ou minutos. Não demorou muito para que acabasse comigo dentro do elevador. Alguns segundos depois ele voltou a funcionar.

A casa de hóspedes é mantida pela empresa. Tem 2 “empregados” que se revesam e cuidam de tudo. As vezes são atenciosos até demais e acham estranho quando eu não quero nada. Tem uma sala de TV com TV a cabo e sofás beem confortáveis. Logo atrás fica a mesa de jantar. Fico em uma suíte muito confortável. Uma cama de casal, guarda-roupas, ar-condicionado, aquecedor... Não é grande nem pequeno, o ideal. O banheiro também é do tamanho ideal e limpam todos os dias.

O banho que é sempre legal. Aquecedor a gás e balde! Tem ducha, mas eu tô tomando banho de balde. A ducha estava estragada e tomei banho de balde no primeiro dia. Aí acabei percebendo que economizo muita água e tempo assim, então vou de balde! Como estou no sétimo andar, poderia ter uma vista bacana, mas graças à poluição e poeira, só consigo ver o predio do outro lado da avenida.

A avenida é uma loucura, buzinas 24 horas por dia, principalmente nos horários de rush. É que na Índia, não se usa retrovisores. Então é através da buzina que eles comunicam que “Estou aqui” ou “Estou passando” (depende da intensidade da buzina). Os caminhões e ônibus têm até escrito no para-choque traseiro “Buzine por favor”. Os carros que têm retrovisor sempre os mantém dobrados, para diminuir a chance de bater. E TODOS os carros são amassados. TODOS!

Moro a 1 quadra do trabalho, então é muito tranquilo ir e voltar. Só que não tem calçada, ando ou no cantinho da avenida ou no meio da poeira das construções. Gurgaon é literalmente um campo de construção gigante. Todos os lados tem prédios enormes sendo erguidos.

Bom, to gostando... Tenho certeza que vou sentir falta deste conforto todo quando me mudar para Bangalore, onde devo morar com outros estrangeiros e dividir as tarefas domésticas.

O Balde

Belveder Park B71 – DLF City Phase III, Gurgaon, Haryana. This is my address during January. In the beginning of February I’ll move to Bangalore, south India.

During this time I’m staying on Alcatel-Lucent’s guest house, living as a king. Belvedere Park is a quite big condominium. There are many buildings and a common area with: swimming pool, gym, party room, game’s room and a small shop that has everything (fruits and vegetables, cosmetics, food, non-alcoholic beverages…).

There are 2 lifts; always an adventure. The city runs out of power several times during the day (like 10 times a day). It didn’t take long for having a blackout when I was in the lift. Some seconds later it came back to function.

The guest house is maintain by the company. It has 2 “house servants” who share the work shift and take care of everything. Sometimes they care too much and think weird when I just don’t want anything. There is a TV room with cable TV and good comfortable sofas. Right behind there is a dinner table.

I’m staying in a very comfortable bedroom with my own bathroom. There is a double bed, closet, AC, heat… Is not too big and not too small; just the ideal. The bathroom has also the right size and is cleaned everyday.

The bath is always fun. Gas heating and a bucket! Is has a shower but I’m taking bath is the bucket. The shower was not working and I took a bucket shower in the first day. Then I realized that I can save water and time this way, so bucket it is!

As I’m in the 7th floor I could have a nice view, but thanks to the pollution and dust I can only see the building at the other side of the avenue. The avenue is madness: horns 24/7, mainly during rush hours. That’s because in India they don’t use mirrors. So is by horning that they can communicate “I’m here!” or “I’m passing by” (it depends on the intensity of the horn).

The trucks and buses have written in the back bumper “Please Horn”. The cars that have external mirror always kept them folded to reduce the chance of crashing it. ALL the cars are crushed; ALL of them.

I live only one block away from work so is very easy to go and get back. The thing is that there’s no sidewalk so I walk besides the avenue or in the middle of the construction dust. Gurgaon is literally a giant construction site. Everywhere there are enormous buildings being built.

I’m enjoying my time here. I’m sure I’ll miss all this comfort when I move to Bangalore, where I should live with other foreigners and share domestic duties.
